Our Story
THE ART OF SLOWING DOWN
Life moves fast. Mirbeau Inn &
Spa is the place to pause.
In the mid-1990s, Linda and Gary Dower found themselves searching for something that didn't seem to exist, a retreat close enough to reach on a weekend, gracious enough to genuinely restore you, and designed not for passing through but for truly letting go. Rather than keep looking, they decided to build it.
In 2000, they opened the first Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Skaneateles, New York — a sanctuary founded on a simple belief: that stepping away from the pace of modern life, even briefly, makes everything that follows better.
REFLECTED BEAUTY
Named after the concept of "reflected beauty" and inspired by the luminous, peaceful landscapes of Claude Monet, each Mirbeau is a family-owned sanctuary for the senses. Every property blends curated spa treatments, timeless architecture, and exceptional dining to cultivate a profound sense of relaxation and well-being.
CHAPTERS OF OUR STORY
From a single idyllic inn, Mirbeau has grown into a collection of five distinctive regional destinations across New York and Massachusetts. Each property shares the same soul and tells its own architectural story.

Skaneateles, NY (2000)
The Original Estate
The first Mirbeau transports guests to a rustic French country retreat in the heart of the Finger Lakes. Classic Provençal architecture surrounds an iconic pond garden directly inspired by Claude Monet's masterpiece in Giverny, France, where the story of Mirbeau began.

Plymouth, MA (2014)
The South Shore Retreat
Designed to evoke a grand regional estate just outside of Paris, this location pairs sophisticated French architecture with expansive, manicured grounds. At its heart lies Mirbeau's signature Monet Pond Garden, offering a serene coastal escape on the Massachusetts shore.

Albany, NY (2017)
The Urban Sanctuary
Spa Mirbeau brings the full Mirbeau wellness experience to the heart of New York's capital. A quiet oasis conceived for those who seek restoration without leaving the city. The complete retreat, without the drive.

Rhinebeck, NY (2019)
The Historic Hudson Valley Escape
Nestled in the heart of the historic village, this property brings the intimate, stylish charm of a 1930s Parisian hotel to the Hudson Valley, blending old-world romance with contemporary luxury.

Beacon, NY (2026)
The Tioronda Estate Revival
Our newest property mirrors the grand estates of the Loire Valley. Beautifully incorporating the site's original 1850s mansion, the resort is surrounded by lush forests, meadows, waterfalls, and Mirbeau's signature Monet Pond Garden, a living continuation of everything Mirbeau has always stood for.
